I'm back! After hangin with the fam and hitting the pow in BC...it's back to work! So I can finally show you the comic I did for my brothers this year! It's the story of how we found an inter-dimensional time machine and end up meeting female versions of ourselves in an alternate universe :) This little project kicked my ass a bit, as it's rather far from my usual style..mostly influenced by Mr.Hipp's wacky fan art. It was really fun, and just served to get me pumped for my NEXT comic. Coming soon.

So I'm goin home for Christmas tomorrow, and I thought I'd post a last sketch....This would be a companion to Gyimah Gariba's wicked Sketchy Dudes pic from a couple weeks ago. I just really wanted to celebrate the amazing group of guys I got to hang out with this year, I don't think that happens too often. Pardon the crappy-ness of the sketch guys - I'm half asleep. I almost drew us as Dirty Mike and the boys from "The Other Guys" (I still think it would be hilarious)

The last two drawing here are among the many left in my apartment after the game, the left was done by the awesomely talented Matias Hannecke, and the right was loosely based on big Brock Lesner, by Freddy Carrasco. I'm gunna keep having these games for the sole purpose of snaking these boys drawings for mah collection! :D

Design Gaming fun...

So the other night I had some friends over and we played this simple game I made up. Basically everyone writes down character concepts and they get all mixed up in a hat and you go round for round with your friends designing, and tallying up points as to who's doing the most bad-ass stuff of the evening. I tell you, it was a blast! We had a twenty minute limit on the rounds, and these were the concepts we randomly selected that night. The other madly talented gamers were Oliver Merlo, Freddy Carasco, Gyimah Gariba, and Michele Assarasakorn. We decided at the end that it was a tie between Gyimah and Ollie, so they each got to choose which concept they'd like repeated, and by whom, with a little more polish. Gyimah got me to repeat the Post-Apoc Viking Chick, as you can see, which I feel I could really do better, but we'll be doing this lots more I hope, so I'll have a chance to redeem myself...You'll have to check out the other participants' blogs to see their entries! :P

I've been a little lazy with posting lately, so tonight I tried some new brushes to get me painting. I should also give credit to Freddy Carrasco for style here, because he got me drawing with markers which is awesome, and forced me to work on my simplification. Just saw the A-Team. Good movie overall, really likable characters. So I was inspired to create my own "Hannibal." When I see him I think of that Sean Connery knock-off design Campbell did in Dangergirl. SO bomb. This bland gent is outta me head tho, mostly trying to paint in this two-light-source style that those like Marko Djurdjevic like to do. Trying being the key word. Night!

So I've been workin in Flash for a few months now, and I'm starting to feel comfortable, so I thought I'd take a drawing I did and make it move. It's nothing pretty, but it moves, and it was fun to do and learn from. I really enjoy working in Flash more now, because it's satisfying to know you really only need to draw something once. When in doubt, watch an old movie...this one happens to be one of my favourites. I think it's James Cameron's first record breaking budget movie...and it's totally worth it. No CG, just good old fashioned movie making magic...lots of smoke. I wasn't paying attention to this sketch much so Ripley isn't wearing the right stuff and no Newt etc, but hey, it's a sketch :P

Well I just finished watching Avatar, and my hopes for this movie were almost completely realized. In some ways more than. A more beautiful movie arguably doesn't exist... and the emotions portrayed through the 3D characters is nothing short of amazing. I'm going to watch it again before I blather on...but I urge anyone who likes movies to go see it. A masterpiece.

Avatar vs Avatar!

I don't usually put up random bits on this blog, but today I'm consumed with anticipation for the two new Avatar movies! I just looked into the rumors of a "blue avatar" and lo and behold! James Cameron's new film!! Now, Avatar: The Last Airbender, which now is just called "The Last Airbender", is what I would usually associate the Avatar title with, so I'd say James has his work cut out for him - marketing-wise, except for that he cashes in on the first release and now sole use of said title. The Last Airbender is being directed by M. Night, which is also some interesting competition! I'd like to set up a poll on this to see what people expect from the two formidable directors, and who will come out with the better picture....but first I'm going to have to learn how to set that up....soon! And then feel free to vote. For now I'll do my best with info and links to fuel this battle of giants!

Something new I've been playing around with, but I'm not ready to finalize the writing because I've still got plenty of research to do, and nothing really finalized yet. I'm writing a comic on the Adventures of Young Sherlock Holmes, and will possibly be producing some episodes in animatic-form, with select bits of full animation. I'm sure it will be slow going, but it will be great to have something with a large arc to occupy my spare time. This is all preliminary work...Hope to share more soon!

I have to say I wish I had done a lot more life drawing in my time here, but I think I have come out of it with a lot more motivation and direction, which is important I think. This may be my last year at the Toronto Winter Fair for a while, drawering the aminals. So I was determined to have some fun with it. The sheep pic was the product of that, but I have a few more still rough that I'd like to polish up for a laugh. I'd call this one, as you can guess, "Black Sheep" It was inspired by the clan-member looking outfits they put on the sheep for the cold.

My lovely friend here is largely unfinished. I now see a lot of things I'd like to change on her, but this is another piece I did in a restaurant in Fort St. John, so I started with a sketch on my tablet and went from there. I find it's a pretty slow process when I start from a drawing on the tablet, at least thus far for me it is. I'll polish her up, maybe, cuz I kinda like her.
